Helen's performance

Three days ago, we started the journey to read Romeo and Juliet which is one of the most difficult books in the world. For one is Shakespeare was written in poetry form and he also used iambic pentameter to write. It is a writing way that follows a stressed and unstressed pattern in a line. He usually created 10 syllables in a line, so it sounds amazing, and it’s easy for people to remember lines. In this week, our class read the entire Act 1 and acknowledged the basic information about the character in the book. Romeo and Juliet are the main characters in this book. Romeo is the son of Montague. Juliet is the daughter of Capulet. The two family have an ancient grudge, so they fought all the time. At first, Romeo falls in love with a girl named Rosaline which is the cousin of Juliet. He tells the audience when he talks to Benvolio. The first scene that he appears is after the Montagues talk to Benvolio to ask the situation about Romeo. Then, he comes to the stage. He was struggling ...

Yesterday, Ms. Guarino asked us to perform Romeo and Juliet in the class for only 1 mins, so our group start to think about how we can perform this. Initially, we start with basic ideas like what is the story and how is it end. Well, we begin with some words like Romeo, Juliet and they meet together in a party, they get married with each other at the first sight. However, Tybalt is the one who finds out the marriage, so he asks for duel, and tries to break them out, yet he died of the duel. Then, Romeo flees from the city. Juliet starts to get crazy because Romeo left, and her cousin died, and her mom wanted her to get married with Paris. As a result, she finds the apothecary to give her potion, so she can die for 2 days, after that, she can flee with Romeo to other cities. Nevertheless, Romeo doesn't know it, so when he finds out that she's died. He goes to the apothecary to get the poison to die with his lover. When he drank the poison, Juliet wakes up, and stabs herself. We ...

I saw Romeo and Juliet when I was pretty young, so I already knew that It was a heartbreaking story about two young people. In the prologue, It give us a brief introduction about the two family which include Romeo, Juliet and their family. The book explain the feud between the two family. In act I, there are two Capulet men who are standing and talking about Capulet, and they said they would do everything for their master, and how to kill or torture the Montague. Suddenly, a Montague comes out of the scene. The Capulets start to provoke the Montague by biting his thumb. While they pull out their swords to each other. At the same time, Benvolio comes and joins the fight( cousin of Romeo), and then, Tybalt comes as well, he pulled out his sword. When the citizens and all of the families and the Prince come, they stop fighting, and the prince is blaming the two families that they always being enemies, but it was Capulet who are provoking, so the prince takes the Capulet away. In this activity, we grouped together thinking about the word “fences”. In our group, everyone got some thinking about the word. I personally think the fence is a term that describes mentally thinking which is the barrier between people mentally, so my story was a boy that was timid and shy about talking in front of people. All this was in a flashback which was because his mom died in a car crash, he couldn't focus on study. Students started to laugh at him because he got low grades and couldn't concentrate on study. The classmate mocked at him and didn’t respect him. He got more and more self-abasement. The teachers found out and suggested him to transfer to another school. He accepted and then, he now is in this school. He thinks about finding the teacher and tells her about this. He has been hidden this for a long time. Last year, I went to the play which is "send from my phone", and that's the meaning of devised theatre. Devised theatre usually happened in America that all the people(actors&crews) collaborate ideas(brainstorm)to think of the story. It's not when we play the scenes of the story that based on the writer or such. People create their own story and it was similar to the improvisational theatre but devised theatre was in a fixed form. It is hard for people to say the methods that everyone is using because they all have different feelings and process, but usually people will always make the form that they want and then gather more ideas as they go through. Normally, people will have some icebreak games, and then they will tell their own stories or things that happen to them; everyone participate in the games, and there is the leftover from everyone.

Initially, Ms. Guarino showed us some examples of people writing their monologues in other class, so we created our own monologue in the class time. People were all creative while we were writing it. I shared my monologue in front of everyone. After few more days, we had to perform in front of everyone about our monologue. Mine was about friends; I wrote about my friend was being bullied by other strangers, so I used my way to stand up for my friends and speak up for her, so no one can hurt her. In this monologue, I tried to read it with anger and power so that no one can harm her. During the summer, Ms. Guarino asked us to read the summary reading and our monologue was based on that book which my part was about the main character’s wife, Rose. So we took the bus and the destination was at Edgerton Park near New Haven. When I arrived and saw all the people around us, It was a tremendously huge amount of people that have been waiting for the show; people brought the comfortable blanket with them, and everybody seems so excited to watch the show.
