                                               Review
First of all, Ms. Guarino told us that we are going to see a Shakespeare show which is Romeo and Juliet. So we took the bus and the destination was at Edgerton Park near New Haven. When I arrived and saw all the people around us, It was a tremendously huge amount of people that have been waiting for the show; people brought the comfortable blanket with them, and everybody seems so excited to watch the show. We, as students were anxiously waiting for it as well. When the night came, a MC came forward and spoke the show would begin soon enough.
The show was basically about in fair Verona, where two merchant families Montague, and the Capulet was the biggest enemy of each other. One day, the two families met in the street, they started to fight against it until the prince of the country appeared and commanded them if the person who started a fight again then that person is going to give its life. When people dispersed from the stage, Romeo came out of from the scene; he is the oldest son in the family of Montague. Romeo fell in love with crazy Rosaline. As a result, his cousin Benvolio and his friend Mercutio attempted to help him by planning to go to the party that Capulet was putting on. For Capulet family, they invited the prince and wanted Juliet to find a fabulous and genteel family so she can marry to Paris. Juliet, however, when Romeo and Juliet met, they immediately fell in love with each other. Romeo found out Juliet was on the balcony and she was thinking about him, so they decided to get married with one another. Moreover, Romeo asked his father (fake) if he can officiate their marriage in the church. Nevertheless, when Juliet's cousin knew that she was married to the enemy family, she asked for a duel to Romeo. However, Romeo knelt down begging her to forgive him. His friend Mercutio said I will fight for Romeo, yet he was killed by the cousin. Romeo began to cry and angry, so he slew Juliet's cousin. He was exiled by the prince to other places. The nurse told Juliet about the entire event about Romeo killed Tybalt, and he was being exiled. At the same time, her parents commanded her to marry Paris. She doesn't like the idea of marrying to him, so she flew to the father and begged him to give her a potion that can make her dead for 2 days. She requested the father to tell Romeo about the "dead", but the message never send to him, so Romeo acknowledged the news and bought poison with him. He saw Juliet was lying and covering in a white cloth, so he kissed her again, also drank all the poison. After he died, Juliet awake and saw he died. As a result, she put out the knife in his pocket and suicided. The two enemy families appeared and they determined that they would never become the enemy again because they hurt their children to death.
In my opinion, the customs and the background were perfect on the play. Everyone is wearing some cloth that was related to that time period which catches people's attention. In a windy and chilly evening, the actors were all wearing little and they still performed really well. The emotions on their faces were correctly displayed even it was freezing outside, but I thought there is going to be some stage changed on the play and maybe it could change into the room of Juliet or Romeo, that would be nicer because we can see the monologue in their room, and also I felt they speak so fast that I hardly heard some words. I think Juliet will be the protagonist that has been highlight on the play because she has some part that acts really annoyed. She also had some selfishness while Romeo fell in love with her. She displayed all of her thinking on stage. Her anxiety revealed when Romeo got banished, and her hesitation when she had courage to drank all of the potion.
My favorite actor in the show would be Tybalt because she showed all of her feelings while she saw the Montague, her raggedness exhibit strongly. When she fought with Mercutio, her cathexis and continuity were not expected in the show, but she acted continuously and put all of her emotions into the play. I could not see any her side in the show. Her hatefulness to the Romeo family and wanted to revenge for her family and such. When I saw the movie, I felt like he was bad and terrible to Romeo, but in this play, I saw another feeling in my heart.
For this show, I do like watching it because I can feel the emotions inside of each characters. Also, I love romantic story, but the ending for this one was too depressed. In the play, Everyone revealed their feelings in the show, and I think the acting was incredible; it seems like nobody ever forget their lines or their character’s personality. All of the acting was like the assembly line. However, the only thing that I concerned was the weather. If the weather became nicer and warmer, I would concentrate more on the show and explored more on the characters.
