In my opinion, I will definitely choose Romeo, Juliet because they were the main characters in the play. Without them, it’s not Romeo and Juliet. Also I will choose Friar Lawrence because he is the one who has multiple ideas for the couple, and he provides the ideas for them. Also, he is the pushing character in the play because they fall in love with each other, Friar Lawrence marries them as husband and wife in the church. And when Juliet is desperate, and she couldn’t figure out what to do, Friar Lawrence says she can take the potion, and this will keep her fall asleep like death, so he makes Romeo worries about Juliet, in addition, comes and sees her. Furthermore, I will also choose Tybalt, because of his death, the two rival families come to the point which are more against each other. He makes this conflict harsher, and because he sees Romeo at the party, he wants to kill him. I will choose the lord Capulet because he symbolizes for the family, he wants Juliet obeys everything, and he is the one who doesn't want them to get in touch. He also symbolizes the conflict with the lord Montague. I will choose nurse for sure, because she represents the childhood of Juliet. She is the one who cares about her, and takes care of her like her own child. She is kind of helping Juliet from her family which always stand by her side, so once there is an opponent which doesn’t agree the marriage between Romeo and Juliet. Then, there must be someone who comforts Juliet, and stands by her side. I will also put down Mercutio, because of him, Romeo wants to kill Tybalt in return. He also represents joy and having fun in some way, he influences Romeo to go to the party and finally finds his true love. When Romeo is being abused, he stands up for him, and fight with Tybalt. I will write down Prince as well, because prince reveals some sort of justice, and fairness in the play. When the two groups of servants fight against in the Act 1, he is the one that comes out of it, and prohibited them to fight anymore. Also, at the end of the play, he comes out and assists the two families get back as friends. Moreover, I will choose Paris because he has a large part in it, he falls in love with Juliet, and hopes she can marry to him. Because of him, Juliet has to marry in 3 days. At least, I will put Lady Montague as the final one because lots of people think he doesn’t have many scenes in the play, but for her, In act 1, the communication with the prince is extremely important, and also at the end, the Montagues and the Capulet finally becomes better, and it should obviously include a Montague to follow the argument, and It’s hard to think of an object for Lord Capulet and Lord Montague because they are all rich and powerful, so lady Capulet can has some distinguishment. I didn’t choose Lady Capulet because she has almost same idea with her husband Lord Capulet, so it’s unnecessary to add her into the play, and also there is no big enough change with her or without her. Additionally, Benvolio is also unnecessary as well, because he also represents the peace (he is the one who wants to stop fighting between the two rival families), so as the prince, and at the end, it’s not Benvolio comes out and make the announcement, yet prince comes and denounce the result of that. I also delete the Apothroaracy. The reason is Romeo can speak loudly about going to get the poison from the drug dealers, and he is only important in that specific scene which leads the death of Romeo, but other people at least show up for 3 times in the play. He is also not significant to show up in the play because people can actually ignore the part, while the most important thing is Romeo does get the poison from him.
For Romeo, I think red rose can be the object for him because he loves Juliet, and Red rose represents love and admire to some people, and he is not white rose because he loved Rosaline before, and it causes him not pure as the white rose. Engraving and a white knife will be the object for Juliet; Juliet is pretty, pure, and naive in some way. She only has a friend which is the nurse, and she always locks herself in her house so she could be naive. As a result, after she gets married to Romeo, she starts to think about their marriage, so when her family asks her to marry with Paris, she refuses and utilizes a way to protest her from getting happiness. She is also growing a wealthy family, so the engraving is highlighting the wealthiness, and dedicating the prettiness of Juliet( Romeo sees her and falls in love with her, so it means she has some kind of good-looking).
For Friar Lawrence, I chose the cross because a glass of potion which is decorating by a cross. He is the priest in the city, and he counsels a lot of people from confusion. However, he is also the science man in the city, he creates many medicines, and potions for people, he believes that man-made power can counsel patients in some way, so I take the two, and combine it all together, so that it can have the religious power and also the man-made power.
For Tybalt, I choose the red sword because he is so aggressive, that when he sees Romeo appears in the party, he wants to go up and kills him at that time. Also, he asks for some duel to Romeo, but Romeo refuses.
For the nurse, I think tissue works really well because the nurse is always comforting Juliet, and gives her all the solutions, helps her get out of the problem. Also, she is crying, when Tybalt, she weeps for Tybalt and says he is a nice man. When Juliet is dead, she cries for Juliet because she is being with Juliet since she was born, so she is sad for seeing Juliet’s ‘corpse’.
For Mercutio, I think alcohol bottle(green) can be the object because he always drinking, and acts crazy in the play. He always mocks at Romeo, and it can be concluded that he drinks a lot, so he doesn’t have any self-consciousness.
For lord Capulet, I think a golden gate(blue) can work well because he is rich, powerful in the city. He also has his own business in Verona, so gold symbolizes for rich, and wealthy from outside to inside. Also, gate represents the barrier that Lord Capulet had set to Juliet, he doesn’t want Juliet to marry to Romeo, so he prevents her from getting out of the home.
For the prince, I think the truncheon will work for it because he is the one who controls everything in the city. Nobody can disobey his order, so truncheon represents the authority that the Prince has.
For Paris, I think he can have a huge and expensive ring because he also loves Juliet, he has a lot of power and money that he wants Juliet to marry him. The expensive ring shows that the how powerful he is.
For lady Montague, I think she can have a big and fluffy(green) coat because she is also rich in the city, and it represents the opposite side of the Lord Capulet.
This effect of it will be tremendous because everyone besides Juliet and Romeo has a side because Romeo and Juliet fall in love with each other, and they become couples and finally come together, so there should not be any side for them(they love each other deep inside their heart), however, their family stayed opposite and was enemy when it’s ancient. This would show a huge conflict between the two families and it will let the audience to see each character easily, and distinguish them. And also, I have changed Apothecary into the Montague family because the ending part is as important as the beginning part. Because of the young couples died, it caused the result of the two families.
For the cast, I think I will probably play Juliet because I can actually perform the naive, and gradually turn into maturity in act 4 because I look kind of young, so I will probably show some obvious changes. For Romeo, I will ask either Joe or Ivan to play it because they can actually express their feelings as they fall in love with Juliet. For Friar Lawrence, I will ask David to play it because he knows how to play has some ideas and provides it to Juliet or Romeo. He looks like a wise man. For the nurse, I will ask nan to play it because the nurse is nice, patient and understand the issues of Juliet. Also, she is nice, and always smiling so she will be a nice counselor. I will ask Jamal to play Mercutio because he seems aggressive, and he can act really good, to interpret them how evil the person is. I will ask Josh to play Juliet’s father( Lord Capulet) because I have seen him playing that part, he is so strict to his daughter when she doesn’t want to marry to Paris. I can feel that he is real Paris in some way. I will ask Nia to play the prince because she can use her body language to stop the two families, and she can play it really well with her interpretation. For Paris, I will ask Joe to play it because he can show how wealthiness he is, and he was confident in the class, so I think Paris is suitable for him. For Lady Montague, I will ask Lesley to play it because she is a really good actor on the stage, she shows everything to us, and I want her to act some arrogant on the stage.
