Helen's performance

Ms. Garino showed us a movie of The Glass Menageries. The Glass Menageries is a memory play which is memories of Tom. He is the main character and also the narrator of this play. The Glass Menageries mainly talks about the events that he had before with his family, in which his father left the family alone. So then, Tom lives in a small apartment with his mother, Amanda, his older sister, Laura in St. Louis. He describes the fights and conflicts between the family, and also the consequences that the family had faced. Amanda, originally from a good Southern family, because of her husband, she then suddenly came to this place. She is disappointed that Laura, who has pleurosis and is terribly shy, in which never attract any gentlemen callers. Amanda enrolls Laura in a business college. Amanda however, discovers that Laura’s shyness has led her to drop out of the class secretly and spend her days walking places alone. Laura’s Journal Why they are fighting again with the small issues? Maybe I can change all that by saying the gentlemen callers. I know my mother that she really wants to mention about the gentlemen callers she had before. It can makes her happy. But why she likes to say about gentlemen callers I received, I think I will receive nothing. I know myself. I am not good, not pretty, I couldn’t do anything. I walk alone in the street to the park now. I can see those animals again. Whenever I see those animals I am happy. The penguins, the plants, the birds are soo beautiful. I want to stay with them, and listen to their voice and their actions. But many people go there as well, maybe they will realize I am crippled. This Monday, I already draw the images of every people’s path. However, I had the wrong understanding about Laura. In my previous picture, Laura is having a new life as Jim inspiring her. He tells Laura to be confident, and she is so beautiful, so she doesn’t have to be shy anymore. So maybe she gets an answer about her life afterward, she then knows what to do and how can she improve her life in the future. However, in today’s class, I have learned that maybe because Jim is dancing with her, and kisses her at the end, so she might have some hopes in Jim as her mother does. She hopes that her high school crush might going to marry with her, then, she will be thankful. Nevertheless, Jim says he is already engaged with some girl, so he cannot ‘stay’ anymore. In the first moment, Laura may have some crush and thinks she has chance to marry, but then, the entire world destroyed. She can never marry to him anymore, even she falls in love at the end. In act 1, it mainly talks about the problems that each character has, and what would it like when there is no father around the house. Every kind of conflict is appearing from the edge. Amanda is explaining how popular she is when she was young and pretty. There are lots of gentlemen caller surround her. She starts to recall all the memory from that time period because her husband left, and the memory leads her to remember all the amazing things. For Laura, although she is quiet and shy, she also has some argument with her mother. When her mother provides a business school for her to learn to type, she dropouts of the school, and wanders around the zoo, and shops when it’s time to go. The only friend for her is the collections of the glass menageries. She talks to them about her feelings. Laura: For Laura, she is the one who has a small amount of conversation, also she is a shy girl in the society. Sometimes, she just listens to what the family is saying, and doesn’t publish any speech. Otherwise, she is a girl who always listens to her mother and enjoys her little own world. This quote is on page 17 to 18, while her mother finds out that she drops out of the typing school, and questions where has she been to after the dropout, she innocently responds that” I went in the art museum and the bird-houses at the Zoo. I visited the penguins every day! Sometimes I did without lunch and went to the movies.
