Fences

In this activity, we grouped together thinking about the word “fences”. In our group, everyone got some thinking about the word. I personally think the fence is a term that describes mentally thinking which is the barrier between people mentally, so my story was a boy that was timid and shy about talking in front of people. All this was in a flashback which was because his mom died in a car crash, he couldn't focus on study. Students started to laugh at him because he got low grades and couldn't concentrate on study. The classmate mocked at him and didn’t respect him. He got more and more self-abasement. The teachers found out and suggested him to transfer to another school. He accepted and then, he now is in this school. He thinks about finding the teacher and tells her about this. He has been hidden this for a long time. The teacher starts to call him around in the class and cares about him. As time passes, he begins to communicate with other people in the class. I think I contribute a lot with our classmate because we create the basic story when I come up with one idea, people can think of the next that comes along with. They also provided some useful information about how can we solve the problems. I also create a teacher role that only cares about the students in the class. The structure of the story went pretty well, and everyone acted like what I thought in some part. We also created narrator, so people could understand the basic storyline, and we explained the story well. People got to know why he built a fence inside his heart and outside the world, so furthermore, people will not be confused by our acting. It was hard for me to not laugh in the senes because I felt funny while Jammal said nonono, but we are not creating this for fun, we wanted to better explain why he was shy, and don't want to talk, so I need to improve that when I actually in the play. Sometimes, I couldn’t express my feelings in the show, I should add more emotions in the story, and let the show goes slower. So it wouldn't be too sudden in the story, I will also give some foreshadowing in this show, so people could guess based on that. Additionally, I shouldn't look at my script every time because I want to make sure that everyone was correct, and I can say my lines accurately. However, I think I shouldn't look because I can also improvise a little with my script. I have learned that I should show more emotions during the show, and become louder on the stage. I have learned how to make a script and wrote it down with my interpretation or thinking as a basic brainstorming. Devise theatre helped me to think what exactly fences is, and how can I display this through the acting or the script. From watching other, I knew that our group is a little messy, and we should do it in order so it can make sure that everyone was playing. Also, I think we should add a strong ending in the show, we didn't actually come up with one yet, because it's gonna be a lot if we create the ending. But in my prespective, maybe Jackson is coming back to normal as the teacher and students became more and more patient to him, and care about him. Jackson will be much closer to the people around him.
