Act 2

Initially, Ms. Guarino showed us some examples of people writing their monologues in other class, so we created our own monologue in the class time. People were all creative while we were writing it. I shared my monologue in front of everyone. After few more days, we had to perform in front of everyone about our monologue. Mine was about friends; I wrote about my friend was being bullied by other strangers, so I used my way to stand up for my friends and speak up for her, so no one can hurt her. In this monologue, I tried to read it with anger and power so that no one can harm her. During the summer, Ms. Guarino asked us to read the summary reading and our monologue was based on that book which my part was about the main character’s wife, Rose. Let me briefly introduce her, while she is a kind person in the family because she always cares about her family, and she puts her family in the first place that always manages the entire house for Troy. She is the one who announce every specific event to Troy and worried about her children. My part was actually about the main character told his wife that he was cheated on her, and had a baby with that woman, although the baby is not born yet. Troy felt like he has lots of burden, and pressure in this house, so he should go out and find someone who make him laugh. However, Rose started a monologue which is about she has been with him for a long time as well, she thinks it’s not fair to her. She is so upset, and furious about the beloved husband did to her. She spent all those years just to love her husband and care for their children, now there is another one. For this character, I created my emotions by thinking of her emotions while she said these lines and sentences. She must have been so depressed and upset about her husband. Also I saw the movie during the summer vocation, I memorized the emotions that Rose has expressed in the movie, and used it in this monologue. However, I also added some my interpretation to those lines, Like frustrated and overwhelmed by the horrible news and such. In this monologue, I did pretty well on memorizing the lines. Although I did forgot the lines in the first 2 times, but I didn't really forget it after the third time. I expressed my own interpretation that I almost crying and got a little angry at the main character. Well, in this monologue, I learned to display my emotions through voice, and some parts of motions. I also noticed that how can I act doleful(maybe sign during the monologue or lower my head or flick my hair up or down), upset(cover my face, sit down) and disappointed( eyes on the ground, voice become smaller) etc. Additionally, I learned a lot from this monologue that how to be sad and angry at the same time through emotions, physical movement, and voice. Ms. Guarino and the other students gave me a lot of constructive advice which helps me to make it better in the next time. Ms. Guarino said I should look at the front when I speak my monologue. However, I was scared of looking forward and staring at the audiences, yet I will become more confident as I stand more times in the future. It's hard for me to express my feelings in front of everyone, and also did some actions or movement in the monologue. This is hard for me because on stage, I was so nervous and scared of speaking the wrong things in front of everyone(they were literally staring at me), so l forgot all the motions and actions that I should use in the monologue. I didn't remember when is the time when I sigh, sit down or watch the ground. Next time, I will practice again and again and tried to add more motions and more details into the show like sometimes, I can not only verbalize the words and sentences, but I can also use movement to demonstrate the words. In peers monologue, I think they did all pretty well. I extremely like Leslie’s monologue because I can see her emotions from sad to sadder(crying and couldn't speak anymore). I should add more next time, just to emphasize my emotions by putting more physical movements, and emotions. Moreover, I love Nan's monologue as well, she has the actor's voice, she expressed her emotion, however, by changing the voice, and I love when she said she went there and saw him and ask for 10 dollars part which makes me feel sympathy for that character.
