How to best perform
In our group, we chose The Night Women and In A Wall of Fire's Rising to be our overall scene. As a group, we want to highlight the hope in Lili's mind. In a Wall of Fire Rising, Lili is a character that puts her full attention to her son. In her mind, Little Guy's successful in the future will be the most important thing in her whole life. In the story, she doesn't care if Guy is on desperation or is losing his hope, the only thing she ever wants to keep is Little Guy. She doesn't care if Guy is scrubbing the latrines or not; she tries to console him by saying it's an honest work. Yet, when Guy suggests her to put Little Guy on the list. Lili is mad and imploring Guy not to ruin the boy's future. Lili believes that one day her boy Little Guy can make her proud, so she wants him to be educated. Moreover, she is tougher than the character in Night Women because she puts a lot of pressure on Guy so that Guy jumps out of the balloon. However, we tried to imagine the lives that Lili and Little Guy had without her husband: the lives of the Night Women. Nevertheless, by using the Night Women story, we ruminate that the father will come with the angel to convince Little Guy to work at the Sugar Mill for the original purpose. And this action is obviously not being accepted by Lili because she thinks that there is more successful in studying rather than just working for the family. Lili's husband, Guy, is died already, so her full hope can only be converted into Little Guy. Also, I want to highlight the braveness and stubbornness of Lili. All of her believes is in Little Guy; she thinks that only if Little Guy listens to her, he can be the man he wanted. For staging, I think most of Lili's stage will be the original color stage light, which is yellow light because I want to focus on her determination of sending Little Guy to school. To emphasize schooling is the most important thing in his life. In her mind, she knows what's best for her son so the normal light will be awesome. However, some of our other scenes will be in blue, which highlights the conversation between the nonliving and living human beings. When Lili and Guy are communicating with each other, the stage can be in blue because it represents the dreaming and the dramatic. However, I have a question about is there any possibility of retaining the normal light and the blue in one stage? This can show that I am still in my mind, not leading by my husband, Guy. At the end of the scene, when I half knee down, I think the stage can become more blue or red so that to represent I committed suicide: like reunited with Guy.
