The Missing Peace

Lamort: the main narrator of the story, a young woman living with her grandma

Summary:
Lamort, a naive and uneducated woman, lives with her grandma in a house. At first, she and Raymond are playing together in a field, but after his unreasonable request, Lamort starts to ask him about his accident of the limp. After the story, she goes back home due to the curfew. However, Her grandmother blames her for her mother’s death and is never satisfied with her behaviors. Lamort never had a mother, and she is desperate for approval from her grandmother. Then, her grandma tells her about the visiter Emile, requesting her to give the needles to the newcomer. She goes and finds out the intention and intention of Emile's visiting. Lamort agrees to take Emile out to find her mother's body, so they sneak out. They are assumed that her mother gets killed in the gravesite. Yet, when they reach out their way, they get caught by other soldiers, Toto. Toto was into killing the two girls, yet Lamort yells and Raymond gets there on time to save their lives. After they go back, Emile writes down the name of the two soldiers. Lamort then is willing to change her name into her mother's.
Interpretation:
This story is about peace. but actually, when I read it all, it is about the danger and violence in the city. After the first part of the story, the narrator depicted some parts about the dead bodies and it highlights the danger within the cities. After curfew, people are not allowed to go out or there will be blood on the ground. Also, the title matches the story because peace as the password doesn't work anymore. It symbolizes the peace is actually gone. People have to face the danger in their lives. However, I think Raymond is a really nice character, providing helps for the narrator many times. Telling her to remember the password so that it will work sometimes. As a result, this might tell us about society. Even though the soldiers are relentless, yet some people will fight or even protect for their loved ones. Moreover, the messages of the mother display the determination of the two female characters.
