What is theatre for me?
In my opinion, theatre is a huge part in humans lives; it’s a collaborative arts that uses live performs on the stage among all the actors, actresses, and directors. What I mean by a huge part in our lives is that we view theatre both as entertainment impacts and as conveying the serious issues on the countries. Also, not only about the themes of the play, but also about the communication between the actors and the audiences in the seats. The communication then will be mainly focus on the emotions that the actors want to display on the stage. Then, by using collaborative, I want to point out the effectiveness of using all the people in theatre, including the actors, different directors, the crews, the orchestra. Everyone works as one big group by providing different approaches to different performances. We can get a lot of benefits from watching or performing theatre. On the one hand, by watching theatre, we can get closer attention to the people on stage, focusing on their costumes, emotions, themes, makeup, etc. We can get a lot of available information. Also, Theatre sometimes might contain deep meanings and truths. As we watch theatre, we can eventually get the ideas of the director, understanding the deeper meaning of society. On the other hand, by performing theatre, we can practice our performing skills, knowing the expression is quite different in different situations. Moreover, as we act out our part, we can learn more about the characters. As a result, we have more experiences on performing characters, acknowledging which one is the best to express.
Among all different people, watching theatres can help people to feel connections between the characters. Sometimes, as we communicate with the actors on stage, we make connections with them. Also, as I mentioned, theatre can reflect back to certain deeper understanding of events, in which people start to premise and contemplate their situation overall. For me, theatre is awesome because it helps me to obtain critical thinking. As I read the books, I ruminate plots, relationships, themes to get into the play.
The challenging part of the theatre will be put yourself into the character. It’s hard to put yourself into the character because you are not that character. You then need time to get used to that character, understand the mindset of the characters. However, the process of finding it can be really interesting. Firstly, you have to use book to understand the entire plot, relationships, personality. Then, you can use films to further watch how their interpretation of that character.
The most important aspect that performers have to learn about is how to be realistic on the stage. Not exaggerating in your performances. Sometimes, when we act in front of people, we tend to exaggerate ourselves than explore the real respect of the character. However, when we exaggerate the characters, it seems fabricate and artificial. Therefore, I think be realistic will be the most important aspect in the performances. To become realistics, we must make connections with the characters inside of the book, finding similar characteristics and personality.
