                                Romeo and Juliet

Ms. Guarino leads the class to read a book called Romeo and Juliet. We’ve also watched the film about the book two weeks ago. The film was directed by Baz Luhrmann. The place was setting in Verona beach in the late 1900s. The film starts with the news forecast on the television, claiming the two rival families: the Capulets and the Montagues.
The family begins with the servants fight. While a group of Montague boys, and Capulet boys put out their guns in a gas station. The policemen break up the fight, and the chief warns each of the clan patriarchs that he will not tolerate any further if it happened again. Benvolio goes to the beach and sees Romeo is troubling with in love with Rosaline, However, Benvolio advises him to get over with Rosaline. On the other hand, The news say there is a party in the Capulet’s house. When Romeo sees Rosaline is in the line, he decides to attend. Romeo and Juliet fall in love at the party, but they come from families which hate each other. The nurse told Juliet he is the rival of the Capulet. Nevertheless, they promise to married with each other, and with helped by Friar Laurence, they marry in secret instead. Unfortunately, after their wedding Romeo kills Juliet's cousin in a duel, and in the morning he is forced to leave her. If he ever returns to the city, he will be put to death. Juliet's parents tell her she must marry Paris. Her parents do not know she is already married. She refuses in the beginning, but later she agrees and prays for the god’s help. Friar gives Juliet a sleeping potion, so she appears to be dead and was put in a tomb. However, Romeo does not know about the plan because of the remote place. He hears this from his kinsmen, telling him that Juliet is dead. So he visits her grave, thinks she is dead, becomes upset , and kills himself in the tomb. When Juliet finally wakes up, she discovers that Romeo is dead, so then she kills herself. The policemen come and discover the death of the two young people. Then, the police says to Lord Capulet and Lord Montague that every hatred between the two family is being punished. The ending was being told by the new casts as well.
The major scene of this movie is more focusing on the tragedy that the two young people have. At first, they fall in love with each other easily at the aquarium, they should noticed that Tybalt is watching them, and he is willing to kill Romeo at the party. Moreover, the death of Tybalt causes Romeo is being banished from the city that he could never see Juliet again. At the house of Friar, Romeo displays his childishness and impatient, by rushing the whole marriage, and too easy to get desperate and happy from hearing the events. Furthermore, his impertinency of rushing to Verona as well cause him to the tragedy. He doesn't really hear from Friar, so he doesn't even get the message from him. Even though, he wants to risk his life to get to Juliet. What’s more, when he sits with Juliet in the tomb, Juliet already moves her hands in a big way, but Romeo doesn't notice that. He just keeps crying and mourning the good things about Juliet. Even she moves her fingers, he doesn't even notice. These all evidence prove that the tragedy of the death of Juliet and Romeo. His act is not smart at all, and these small events cause him to lost both of their lives.
Another main theme for this movie is love with the water in it. Also, they see each other from the aquarium. They get some kind of eye contact from it, so they want to explore more about each other. They communicate for several time, and kiss in the elevator. After that, when Romeo sneaks into the house to see Juliet, he gets wet when he asks Juliet like that’s it? They get into the swimming pool, and they kiss and hug each other in the swimming pool. What’s more, when Romeo kills Tybalt, and goes to Juliet’s house. It’s raining outside, and his blood is clearly all dissolved from the raining, and when he comes, his cloth is with water, but not with any blood on it. This symbolizes that he gets cleaner when he sees Juliet, and also represents the true and pure love between the two young people, so water cleans out the revenge and bloodiness in Romeo and let him becomes natural.
The style of the two family perform in great differences. While the Montagues wear colorful costumes, yet the Capulets wear black and serious costumes in some way. The Montagues seems like a group of gangsters that walk randomly rather like the Capulets family in a serious mood. Also, the music changes. When Romeo meets Juliet at aquarium that they are both watching and tracing a blue fish. When their eyes meet together, the music is sweet, and about love. So the music also represents the loving. Moreover, at that scene, we can also see the white dress with a wing on her back that Juliet wears in the costume party. Romeo, on the other, wears an armor, so it points out that Romeo is the soldier who protects Juliet from danger, and Juliet is the angel that makes him happy and satisfied. That’s a huge difference that was shown in the play because in the play there is no costume party, but they will wear a mask. In the movie, Romeo and Mercutio are a lot different than in the play. In the movie, when Romeo hesitates whether he should go or not, Mercutio gives him the drugs and persuades him to go to the house with them. In the play, Mercutio persuades him mentally by telling him a story from his dreams, so to push him to actually go to the party. Romeo highlights the most because he is the main character in the play, and his acts and motions promotes more things to happen. The director might want us to know that because of Romeo’s impatience, and childishness in the play, it lead himself and Juliet into the tragedy. He always wants to do it as fast as he can, so they can be together instantly. He never actually thinks what would happen, and what’s the plan for solving the problems.
In this play, I like Juliet the most. First of all, she is pretty. Her appearance matches what Juliet is like: pure, innocent like the angel from the heaven. Just like Romeo says it in the play which: ‘But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief,’ Romeo describes her as she comes from the sun, and which represents the hopes in his heart. This shows that Juliet shines through his path like a small angel that leads him through the darkness. I like her also because she acts really well. When she meets Romeo at the aquarium, she smiles naturally at him to shows her shyness, and this provides a kind of innocent she is. Also, when Romeo is exiled by the police, she shows worried on her face, and almost cries out for the lost of Romeo. I almost cried when she is worried about Romeo. It also moved my emotions, and I felt sympathy for Juliet. She uses her full emotions to express her happiness when she sees Romeo, and also utilizes sadness when he is gone.
The overall drama is really well. The whole appearance for Romeo and Juliet are so nice, that I almost addicted to the appearance of Romeo. His emotions also affect my feelings in some way. When he becomes sad, I will become so sad for him. The director performs the theme of tragedy really well, he mainly focus on the tragedy that the two young people would have, and we will become sympathy for them. Also, the linking of the ancient time where Shakespeare wrote this, to this modern time period. The director uses his details to introduce the tragedy that they had. He creates several ways and ideas to just to let the story was leaded by the tragedy. Also, he emphasizes love between Romeo and Juliet, the aquarium scene makes it more dramatic and not cheesy.
