Reflection on Vampire version of Romeo and Juliet

Last week Ms. Guarino asks us to write an adaptation of our own thinking about modernize Romeo and Juliet. Me, Jasmine, Lesley and Jamal are doing the modernized Vampire version of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is a vampire in a vampire family. His dad was working in a company near the school, so he changes into this school. His mom alarms him not to communicate with any girls in the school, yet he falls in love with Juliet in the homecoming dance. They promise to be together and marry. However, Romeo’s mom finds out that Romeo comes home so late, so she comes up with a full plan. She connects with Rosaline, and hopes she can be her daughter in law. Rosaline at the same time loves Romeo as she saw him in the past. Romeo refuses her request, and says he only loves Juliet, not other can compare to her love. As a result, Rosaline finds Juliet in the school by using Romeo injuries when he plays baseball. Juliet hears this and follows her. She then is being killed by Rosaline. Romeo sees this, pulls out his knife, and kills Rosaline. Afterward, he ends his life with that life because he doesn’t want to be alone. I did well because we came up with the scripts altogether. We think, elaborate, and combine our ideas together to form the modernized version. Sometimes, we know as we go through the plot, we will think of anything small details to adjust the entire story. Such as I come up with the idea that in the party scene we need pop music and the transform into romantic music when Romeo sees Juliet, so it reveals the love was appeared through music. Moreover, I think music is a huge part in our scene when Juliet sees Romeo, just like we saw the movie that the water represents love and pure. We put soft and romantic music as the pure love with Romeo and Juliet. I think a lot to show the love between the two young people because their love is the most important in this play. Nobody could ever destroy their love. I also come up with the idea of giving Romeo blood soup in the morning, so it could display our vampire identity. People would have a little hint from eating blood soup. Also, I think I start to think how to act like a mother, acting what a mom would do to her son and worried about he doesn’t have a girlfriend yet, and coming home late in the middle of the night. At first, I was just trying to be nice to my son. However, as we discussed deeper, I found out that I may act like a strict mother, commanding my son what to do, and what not to do. Such as I told him not to communicate with other human beings, stay away from them and questioned why my son is coming home so late. These sentences emphasize that I care about my son, and want him to obey my words only. ,I also insist to have background sound, and seek to improve my acting skills. I am struggling with my actions and laughing points. Sometimes, I don't have any reaction for other people. I just act what I think will happened, but I need to react more, so it would be obvious for the audiences. I should definitely think more what I should react to other characters because I have small actions, so it is hard to see, and say the lines afterward. Also, I always laugh in the camera. When I over think some sentences in the play, I found that is funny, so then I laughed. Sometimes, we should record 10 videos, so I could stay focus, and not laughing in front of people. A little small detail could let me laugh and I couldn't stop, so I felt like laughing is the most struggled problem for me because I couldn't stay focus, and it led our video took more time to finish. However, the frequency of the laughing was decreased; I didn't laugh as many as before, so I always forced myself to stay focus. In addition, I speak louder in the camera because of the experience of theatre and also the Caucasian Chalk Circle, it led me not that afraid to talk in front of people. Moreover, I added some emotions of a mother, I start to think like an actor. Should I be nice to my son, or strict? Then, I answered my question; I should be stricter because I need to marry my son with Rosaline, so I should worried about him, like a mother spoils his son. In order to act well in the play, I worked with our group with lots of discussion and comprises. We provided different ideas, and combined ideas together as one big idea. For example: should we have more music when Romeo and Juliet meet each other? Because we want to emphasize their love. In the movie, the water scene represent love and pure, so maybe we can have music to represent our love since we don't have any water or other things to emblem. Also, when I speak about she is the most beautiful vampire family, I couldn't stop laughing, so me and my teammates were struggling that part with more than 3 times, so we promised that we would not laugh again, and we said we didn't have enough time to finish up, so we should hurry. Then, we understand each other, so we won’t spend too much time. Furthermore, we created a google drive to share with one another, and in the free time, we could revise the version. As everyone agreed with our statement and version, we started to film in the different area in the school. To view this as Romeo’s home, and Juliet’s, so it will help audiences to understand better. We also edited some text to let the audience to understand what happened because we had several parts that were unrelated. For our group, it’s pretty different than the original scene because we created different roles rather than just the two enemies, having two different species, and their identities emblemed that they could never be together. Also, we didn't have any friends in the version, and we also deleted the fight scenes because we think their love are more important than the family grudge, the two family actually had no grudge between each other. The only difference will be the different species and different levels, so it lead them couldn't get married with one another. Also, we didn't have Paris which falls in love with Juliet, yet we had Rosaline to be the character who was attracted by Romeo and wanted to marry with Romeo. As a result, we made some changes that Rosaline sees Romeo, and wanted to have a immediate marriage. Also, the mother personality has a caring heart for her son, she, as a result, is more caring. She wants to control her son rather than cares about his own feelings about love, so it's similar to the Lord Capulet. When he sees Paris, he thinks Paris will obviously suitable for Juliet. He never thinks about Juliet’s feelings to Paris, but this adaptation is modernized, so we had more connections with technology such as we had music background, Juliet is calling with her friends on her phone, this emphasizes the developed modernization. My understanding of Romeo and Juliet is the combination of the tragedy and love. In the original version, Even though, they had tried everything to prevent the death, but they couldn't avoid the tragedy because the ‘help’ from others and also themselves. They are too hurry that wanted to get married, if they are not hurried, they might not commit suicide. In this version, we didn't mention the tragedy that much, but we focus more on the love between Romeo and Juliet. Their love blind the reality, and the revenge from Rosaline. She and Romeo’s mother are the people who actually kill them, Romeo’s mother is so curious about where Romeo had gone, and she is so willing to control her son like some parents: everything must be arranged by them. We more focus on the family issues, because of Romeo’s mother, they died,
Although Romeo’s mother doesn't know anything about the marriage between her son and another human being, she still wants her son to to obedience like master and their dogs. She told what Romeo should do, as we see the first scene, Romeo’s mother forced him to eat the soup, maybe later she will force her son to marry with Rosaline. Rosaline, on the other hand, is another cause that influence the death. She only wants her Romeo to marry with her, so she comes and finds Juliet, and kills her to avoid their love get too much. She might have some psychopath because she only wants to get love from Romeo, so she kills Juliet in order to get love
